new Paddington Bear

September 25, 2007

I am pleased to learn about the new Paddington Bear movie which is supposed to be released in 2010 by Warner Bros. I’m too old to want new things, and doubt it will top the the old version with its stop-action bear and animated family. But I am happy that Michael Bond’s series might become the newest thing with little ones. The books are too charming to lose.

Aw, it’s nice to see old stories revitalised (Winny the Pooh is one of my favourites), and when I travel through Paddington Tube Station quite regularly, I always pondered whether he’d be lost to the whims of time… So I’m hopefully assuming he’ll old on a little while longer now :]
Another bear story I love was Rupert, I still have so many vhs lying around from that adoration, maybe one day I’ll dig them out and try and find a vhs player at an old pawn shop.

I loved Rupert too! Relatives in the UK used to send me the collections for Christmas. In my memory, they were equivalent to Carl Bark’s ducks but with more traditional magic.

My grandparents used to buy me the xmas annuals so Rupert holds lots of memories. Disney was big here too, but more from when i hit around 8 or so, and television here become a little more up to date!

Do you mean the Disney feature films were broadcast then or the TV shows like Darkwing Duck or Pepper Ann were imported then?

The TV shows, but I don’t remember the names, I just remember the 3 Duck Kids and a really rich uncle? 90’s Disney cartoons seemed to blur into one at times, though a tried and tested formula always works?

Aha! You mean Ducktales with Huey, Dewey and Louie and their Uncle Scrooge. It was the best of the lot. I think that the original comic book version done by Carl Barks was even better. Toonopedia has a bit about Bark’s story http://toonopedia.com/barks.htm.

Someday I plan to own a set of the reprints but last time I checked, they were a little expensive.
