Ball of Fire (1941)

Years ago, I saw this movie on TV and liked it a lot.  I had planned on seeing it again but thought it couldn’t possibly be as amusing as I remembered.

Finally,  I rented it.  I was surprised to find out that it was better than I had hoped.  It’s equal to The Awful Truth and Bringing Up Baby.

A grammarian (Gary Cooper) working on an encyclopedia hires a dance hall girl (Barbara Stanwyck) to teach him slang.  She expands his horizons a lot more than he bargained for.

Implausible but great fun!

Stanwyck as Sugarpuss O’Shea is glamorous and sharp-tongued.  Gary Cooper as Bertram Potts is naive and book smart.  The two of them are engaging together.

Please treat yourself and watch it.

One of my 30 favorite movies.  Here is a review.
